GridinSoft Notepad is a small notepad application with some additional features that are of interest to programmers. It offers customizable syntax highlighting for more than 25 popular scripting languages, including HTML, ASP, PHP, Perl, Pascal, C++, and others. The free version is perfectly suitable for upgrading your existing drive to a larger one. It supports IDE/ATA/SATA hard disks and is able to copy up to 300 MB/min. The software does not recognize a USB mouse or keyboard (after boot), so you need to connect a non-USB mouse and keyboard to operate the copy interface.

You could use the Windows configuration to accomplish this, OR you could use the great freeware application HDCopy. It's a no frills, easy to use tool that will have your new hard drive set up identically to your old hard drive's Windows configuration, including hidden files

Horodruin is a tool to synchronize two or more folders at once. It provides several filtering options based on file masks, access rights, and more. Unlike many other folder synchronizers, it does not use a specified target folder, but synchronizes folders among each other. You can limit copy actions with use of the masks or access rights. It's a little difficult to get started with, but quite flexible once you get familiar with it. The interface provides a preview that shows you which files are synchronized, and which ones aren't.

InsideCAT is a disk cataloging program for CD-ROMs, floppies, ZipDisks, etc. It offers support for compressed files (ZIP, RAR, CAB, ACE, JAR, ARJ, LZH, LHA, ARC, ZOO, PAK, TAR, GZIP, EXE))and can index the content of your drive or media for offline searching. Once indexed, you can search the media without having to insert the physical disk. The program offers a simple search, as well as advanced search with support for wildcards, attribute search, and more.

jetToolBar is a customizable toolbar that you can use to launch your favorite applications. It can auto-hide along the bottom of your screen and allows you to organize your shortcuts into tabs for easy access. You can launch files, Web sites, applications, documents, etc., and set custom icons for each for easy recognition. The toolbar can use differently sized icons to take up more or less screen space. It offers support for multiple monitors as well.

Now I am not a big program coder, nor do I play one on the Internet. However, much like yourself, I cannot say that I have never thought of wanting to give it a shot. It sounds interesting. It looks fun. So what is the problem? Well, you could probably list about thirty-seven issues that might be out there, but the number one issue is “ease of use.” Just BASIC tries to take some of those “ease of use” problems out of the equation.

After downloading the program, I have to say I was still a little confused. However, due to the genius of the developers, they have made steps to include a few tutorials to help walk you through using the product. That has helped to soften the blow a little, but I still feel like programing is a little over my head for now. Some of the features include easy source level debugging, graphics including sprites and printing, and the ability to just create a standalone program that is royalty free! {Learn to code} Don't believe the hype: Learning to program a computer doesn't have to be a heart-sinking bother! Brandon Watts has created an easy-to-use interface for first-timers and budding programmers. Beginners can learn the structure of coding without an exotic bundle of gibberish getting in the way. Applications created with Leopard are easily saved into .exe format as standalone Windows programs. As a stepping stone to more complex languages, Leopard Programming is an almost Zen-like approach toward the hallowed halls of codemonkey Heaven. {File information} A great little utility that collects information about files and sub-folders for a selected directory or drive and generates a log. Plenty of options for customizing the results such as path, file name, folder name, extensions, file size, and save date. On top of that, the results can be sorted or not, determine the units to use for file size (none, bytes, kb, mb, gb), and specify a delimiter which comes in handy if you want to import the results into a spreadsheet. At the end of the file, it lists the number of files, folders, and the sum of the file sizes. Whew, that backup folder is a big'un!

{Outlook add-in} MailFiler is an addition to Microsoft Outlook 2000 and 2002 that organizes the Inbox, handles bulk and junk mail, tracks messages, and files them. The program analyzes incoming e-mails and organizes them in a structured manner. It tracks message threads and folders used for different senders, and suggests the filing location (or you can choose automatic filing). The toolbar comes with a Junk Mail button, which you click to have spam e-mails automatically removed from the inbox. I don't use Outlook to manage my main e-mailbox, but if I could download freeware programs at the office (you know that ol' we-don't-allow- you-to-download-anything-unless-it's-on-the-approved-company- software-list-blah-blah), this would be immediately added because I like an organized mailbox. V1.3 should be out soon, and it addresses a problem with the slow appearance of the toolbar when Outlook starts up if the user has Public Folders. (If you don't have Public Folders, it's not a concern.) Probably any add-in to Outlook is a big step forward for the program.
