Tarylynn synchronizes two folders and all subfolders within. It is useful for making a quick backup to a network drive, or for copying files to a laptop. The program is very easy to use; just select the two folders to compare and choose to copy a folder from the left to the right, or vice versa. You can also delete files that are not contained in one of the folders. The differences can be previewed, so you'll know beforehand what files will be processed.

{Customizable file manager} Opening this program gave me a deja vu moment as the file manager resembles the old Windows file manager from, I believe, 3.11. Those who don't like the current Windows file explorer will find this one worth checking out. It has a two-paned window where each pane can be opened to any directory without having an impact on the other. Its menu provides quick access to display properties, the media player, and system properties. Files can be viewed, edited, encrypted / decrypted from within TurboNavigator.

{Pop up filter} Pull the shades on those @()#*$ popups with Window Shades, an Internet Explorer plug-in that filters all popup windows, and on a domain (site) basis. For example, Lockergnome.com has many URLs to the different parts of its site. You can tell Window Shades to allow all pages from Lockergnome.com to funnel through. Or, if there is a page you won't want, you can specifically list the complete URL to avoid getting the page. Enter the URLs for the sites you never want to come through and they're forever banned from your view in Internet Explorer. (Users who rely on Netscape, Mozilla, and Opera or use Windows 95, 2000, or NT can't benefit from the program.) To quickly turn the program on and off, create custom shortcut keys. The program launches and closes automatically with Internet Explorer. When you first build the domain filters, there's a prompt dialog box for each pop up window. However, it's optional and can be turned off. The program can sit in the system tray or be hidden. It's up to you. In my case, it should be called "Window Blinds" since I have nary a curtain in the house, with no time to decorate the house more than necessary... plus I don't have an eye for it

{Wallpaper control} Change is usually good. However, if you're like me and you like being able to give a custom look to every imaginable facet of your system, it was a bit of a letdown when Win XP came along. In Windows 98 (and on up 'til XP), a user had the ability to change the wallpaper of each folder as well as the text color of the icons in that folder. This allowed each folder to be more readily identifiable, not to mention more 'custom' in appearance. But for inexplicable reasons, when Win XP rolled out, this customization was (for the most part) removed by MS. Enter Windowpaper XP: it provides a simple to use and pretty slick interface that, again, allows you to set a custom wallpaper for your folder(s).
