BeClean is a system-cleaning tool that includes a Registry Cleaner, Internet Cleaner, History Cleaner, Temporary Files Cleaner, Disk Cleaner, Desktop Cleaner, and a Start Menu Cleaner. In addition, you can create customized Cleaners and specify files, folders, and registry keys of your choice. The main interface allows you to select the cleaning operations that should be performed, and you can further select which operations should be performed by each Cleaner. BeClean automatically creates a registry backup before deleting anything and, in addition, a detailed log is created. An additional disk cleanup wizard allows you to delete files based on wildcard patterns. The program does not offer any preview or detailed information for items to be cleaned, so be sure you know what you're doing when enabling the optional registry cleanups.

{Put the desktop back in order} I know when a spy has messed with my PC. If one thing is moved - an icon, the keyboard, the chair, or anything that touches the PC desk - I know someone has been here without authorization. Often, that someone is the four-year-old toddler who recently discovered a new talent of flooding a toilet. It was either him or an idiot tech support guy who didn't bother to leave a note! (Not knocking tech support, though, as someone near and dear to me is a manager of a tech support shop. There are just some that have neither common sense nor knowledge of how to fix a computer.) Save My Desktop! takes a screenshot of the desktop, so when someone screws with your icons and whatnot, you set the program to rearrange things the way they were before. It's not simply a "snapshot" and you put everything back together like a puzzle - it automatically does it for you. Sorry, it won't work for the things on your actual physical desk - just the icons on the desktop screen.

ScrubXP is a one-click cleanup tool that runs in your system tray. As soon as you click it, it will delete and clean the following items: IE History, IE Temporary Files, IE Cookies, Recent Documents List, Recycle Bin, Auto-complete Entries (and Turns it Off). It also cleans the Recent File Lists for Run, Common Dialogs, Recent Documents, Search Assistant, Typed URLs, Paint, Find Computer, Printer Ports, Find Files, Media Player, Previous Tasks, and Real Player. The program runs automatically when you start your computer and additional cleanups can be performed by double-clicking the tray icon. {Enhance default shell} Transparency lovers can make any open window transparent using ShellEnhancer. Add power to ALT+TAB (task switching) with two types: TaskSwticher (the one you know with a little extra power) and Mosaic TaskSwitcher, which puts a mini-screen shot of the applications in a full screen. Create tasks, which are commands that get executed such as sending keystrokes, inserting text, running a program, and so on. Those who hate it when IE doesn't maximize on loading can solve the problem by creating a task to open IE and maximize its window. The X-Window feature speeds up the process resizing and moving a window as opposed to moving the mouse to the corner of a Window to do it.

Startup Control Panel

When Windows boots, the OS starts all of your autoloading programs almost simultaneously. The autostart app that appears to load last is probably the one that takes the longest time. You need something that lets you control the order and insert pauses between programs. That way, you can eliminate conflicts caused by multiple programs loading simultaneously, and you can choose which program welcomes you when you start your day.

StartRight lets you reorder Windows' autoloading programs and set delays for each. The utility lacks a help file, but it's not too difficult to figure out how to use it. Rather than run an installation program, you save the StartRight.exe file in a convenient location on your system, double-click the file to launch the program, and click the Install button. StartRight then takes control of your autoloading apps. Click the Edit button to bring up a dialog box where you can change the order in which the programs load and set the pause (in nanoseconds) between program loads.
